BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- The Kern High School District is seeking to provide guidelines on the use of artificial intelligence in classroom settings.

The proposal says this new policy is meant to provide principles for the district regarding AI use by both students and staff. It also requires the superintendent to ensure the usage follows district policy, according to the KHSD Board of Trustees agenda.

The proposed policy defines artificial intelligence as an “engineered or machine-based system that varies in its level of autonomy and that can, for explicit or implicit objectives, infer, from the input it receives, how to generate outputs that can influence physical or virtual environments,” as per California’s Education Code.
