MADERA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The City of Madera Police Department says residents can expect to hear an increase in gunshots over the next two weeks - it's hunting season.
Officials say hunting season for mourning and white-winged doves opened Monday and will run until Sept. 15. Shooting is permitted anytime half an hour before sunrise to sunset.
As such, residents may hear gunshots throughout the day coming from designated hunting areas around the county - some of which are just outside city limits.
Dove hunting season will resume on Nov. 8 and will run until Dec. 22 for spotted and ringed turtle doves.
