MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Illegal tire dumping is a problem countless cities across America face, and in Memphis, Nonconnah Creek has once again become a dumping ground. Just weeks after a reported cleanup in early August, another wave of tires has been tossed in.
According to a 311 report, this problem has been a consistent issue.
When it comes to penalties, a Memphis city ordinance states that illegal tire dumping can be punished with fines up to $50 per tire.
Those aren’t one-time fines either; each day the violation continues, a new offense is recorded. This means if 100 tires were dumped for one week, the guilty party could face a $35,000 fine.
