Members of Chicago's boating community erected a memorial at DuSable Harbor after one of their own, a man they affectionately knew as "Captain Bill," died in a homicide.

The memorial has grown at the harbor's C Dock, where 63-year-old Nabil Abzal lived on his boat during the summer. Abzal's body was pulled from Lake Michigan early Saturday morning nearby.

The 63-year-old died by drowning, and the manner of death was ruled a homicide, the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said. Chicago police were investigating, but had yet to provide details on Abzal's death as of Monday evening.

A memorial in the boater's honor has been planned for 6 p.m. Saturday at the harbor's C Dock.
