FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Thousands of demonstrations took place across the United States, including in Arkansas, on Sept. 1 as part of what is being called "Workers over Billionaires" protests.
Organizers said the demonstrations aimed to spotlight economic inequality on Labor Day, a holiday dedicated to recognizing the contributions of American workers.
"Labor Day dates back to 1882, when workers gathered in New York City to remind elected officials and others that workers matter," Lisa Childs, one of the organizers for Indivisible NWA, said.
Childs said President Donald Trump's "big, beautiful bill" that passed on July 4 was a primary motivation for the protests.
