SAN DIEGO -- Padres reliever Jason Adam was carted off the field in the top of the seventh inning of Monday night during the team’s series opener against the Orioles at Petco Park.

Adam, who got the final out of the sixth inning, was three batters into the next inning when Gunnar Henderson hit a grounder up the middle. Adam’s delivery carried him toward the left, and he tried to move back to his right against his momentum to try to make a play on the ball.

His left knee buckled, and Adam collapsed to the ground. After trainers came out to check on him, Adam was helped up by his teammates and carted off the field.
