JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KY3) - Missouri lawmakers return to Jefferson City this week for a special session on redistricting and initiative petition reform. Although the call for action is similar to what the Texas Legislature has just experienced, the minority party’s strategy differs.
Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe called for the special session just hours after Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed his state’s new congressional maps into law on Friday. The call includes redrawing the districts that decide who represents Missourians in the U.S. House of Representatives. Lawmakers are also planning to take up bills on the state’s initiative petition process, which allows citizens to amend the state constitution.
