SOMERSET COUNTY, Maine — A float plane crashed Monday on Flagstaff Lake in Dead River Township, leaving two people with minor injuries.
Authorities said a 1956 Cessna 170B was attempting to take off around 1:30 p.m. when it went down. The pilot, 62-year-old Stephen Vorpagel of Readfield, and a passenger were rescued and brought to shore. Both had minor injuries and abrasions.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Agencies involved in the response included the Maine State Police, Maine Warden Service, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, local EMS, the Department of Environmental Protection, and the Federal Aviation Administration.
