Michigan House adds $50M to budget for controversial U.P. mining operation

Lansing — The Michigan House budget approved last week seeks to directly give $50 million in taxpayer dollars for the aid of a mining project in the Upper Peninsula, even though prior attempts at the funding failed to garner support.

The House spending plan includes the $50 million earmark as well as more than $100 million in other earmarks or specially designated projects in the nearly $79 billion spending plan.
