OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - To be a skater, you’ve got to lace up your skates.

For 11-year-old Holly Kubicek of Fort Calhoun, that’s never been an issue.

“I will have parents come up to me and ask, ‘How did you get her to tie her skates?’” said Angie Kubicek, Holly’s mother. “She just refuses to not be independent.”

“She does everything herself and that’s just how she was brought up,” added Roxanne Taylor, Holly’s coach.

For Holly, the focus is on lighter things.

“I feel like I can be very outgoing and just fun,” she said.

Those traits have grown as Holly has — navigating her sport and life with a limb difference. She was born without a left forearm, something she’s using to her advantage.

“It makes me stand out more,” Holly said.

“We don’t even look at it as a disability anymore,” Taylor
