A 51-year-old woman was rescued by helicopter Monday afternoon after crashing while paragliding in steep, remote terrain east of Toro Canyon, authorities reported.

Santa Barbara County Fire’s Air Support Unit hoist-rescued the woman and her gear after the accident. The crash was reported at 1:17 p.m., the department’s Public Information Officer posted on X.

Firefighter-paramedics treated the woman at the scene before she was airlifted to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital with moderate injuries.

The challenging terrain required specialized hoist operations to safely retrieve both the patient and her equipment.
