Residents of neighborhoods near the Santa Fe River, just outside city limits, haven’t given up their push to remain in Santa Fe County as a long-planned annexation of their area remains stalled.
They have again filed a petition urging the Santa Fe County Commission to adopt an ordinance declaring the 1,075-acre tract known as Area 1B as part of the Traditional Historic Community of Agua Fría.
The document asks commissioners — for the second time in recent years — to effectively block the city of Santa Fe’s planned annexation of the area, in large part due to residents’ concerns about city services and development. This follows a dramatic political dustup in 2023, when the city appealed the commission’s effort to expand Agua Fría village to include about 60% of the tract, which lies east
