MESA, Ariz. — Mesa PD have identified a young woman who was killed in a crash early Saturday morning . It happened after a driver slammed into a brick wall near Val Vista and Broadway and the passenger lost her life. Police believe the driver was impaired and say speed was also believed to be a factor.

The victim has been identified as 21-year-old Marcella Manuel, and her loved ones showed up to the crash scene Monday evening to remember her.

“Her birthday was coming up on September 15," said Desiree Lewis, Marcella's mother.

In two weeks, Marcella's family was set to celebrate her 22nd birthday. Instead, they found themselves surrounded by loved ones as they created a memorial for a life taken too soon.
