The Lufkin District of the Texas Department of Transportation has released details on a 2-year project set to start near the beginning of September 2025.

This widening project is aimed at improving road conditions on State Loop 287 between U.S. Highway 59 and Copeland Street, will get underway within the next week. When completed, dedicated lanes will be connected to the ramps of Business 59, Southwood Drive, and College Drive, giving drivers additional time and space to both merge onto and exit the loop.

Longview-based contractor Longview Bridge and Road is set to place traffic barricades to direct traffic through the work zone east of where Loop 287 crosses above the Union Pacific Railroad line and FM 324/Southwood Drive on Wednesday, September 3.
