NORTH IDAHO – New regulations have been announced by Idaho Fish and Game for deer hunters in North Idaho this season.
These changes come in response to the discovery of chronic wasting disease (CWD) in the area last year.
The new regulations apply to whitetail hunts.
All harvested deer in selected areas of North Idaho must be tested for CWD within 10 days.
The CWD management zone has been established in the panhandle.
It is in effect within Boundary County and east of the Selkirk Mountains Crest. This zone includes mule and whitetail deer.
While elk and moose hunts are also recommended for testing, it is not a requirement.
These measures are part of efforts to manage and combat the spread of CWD in the region.
