Scotland is expected to be the drug death capital of Europe for the seventh year in a row. ‌

Figures set to be published on Tuesday are expected to place the country at the top of the notorious list. There were a shocking 1,172 drug misuse deaths in Scotland in 2023 with grim data revealing the total deaths in a decade were 10,481. ‌

Experts are predicting that number to drop slightly for 2024, but they have warned that any decrease will not be enough to dethrone Scotland as Europe's worst, the BBC reports. ‌
