Five men from Senior Chief Mwaulambia’s area in Chitipa District have been fined a combined total of over K7 million by the Chitipa Magistrate Court for the illegal possession and handling of petroleum products.

The offenders—Richard Simbowe, 41; Edison Sinkhonde, 26; James Samuel, 28; Skeffa Simunthala, 26; and Christopher Mbukwa, 51—were arrested in August after being found transporting and storing fuel without proper licences.

The cases were handled by Senior Resident Magistrate Ephraim Chikwakwa and Second Grade Magistrate Mike Lungu, who imposed individual fines ranging from K160,000 to K4 million.

According to Chitipa Police spokesperson Sub-Inspector Gladwell Simwaka, all five convicts have since paid their fines in full.
