Forest Park will host Ishpeming Friday in a game that marks 50 years since a 1975 season in which each school won a state championship.

MHSAA offered its first postseason for football in 1975 — 16 teams qualified to compete across Class A, B, C and D. Ishpeming hoisted a trophy in Class C and Forest Park in Class D.

Before Friday’s 6 p.m. kickoff at Dick Mettlach Field, the schools will honor their 1975 11-player teams. The respective captains will be the honorary captains, including at the coin toss.

Ishpeming and Forest Park have switched to eight-player formats and the Trojans are the defending MHSAA eight-player Division 2 state champions. But they’ll enter Friday’s contest with an 0-1 record, having fallen to Newberry 22-20 in their season opener.
