TORONTO, Ontario, Canada — Actor Graham Greene , who was nominated for an Oscar for his role as the gentle-natured Kicking Bird in the 1990 western “Dances with Wolves,” has died at the age of 73.

People Magazine reports Graham died Monday at a hospital in Toronto after a lengthy illness.

“He was a great man of morals, ethics and character and will be eternally missed,” Michael Greene, the actor’s agent, said in a statement to Deadline . “You are finally free.”

Actor Lou Diamond Phillips wrote on social media that he was “heartbroken” about Greene’s death.
