The sights and sounds of a Labor Day tradition filled Brooklyn Monday: the West Indian American Day Parade.
“That’s what we do. I been doing this since I was young, it’s just a New York thing,” said Joy Flowers, a paradegoer who came out with a group of friends.
The annual parade, one of the city’s largest street parties, stretched along Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn, celebrating the richness of Caribbean culture with floats, costumes and music.
“Coming out here is a big family, it’s a whole Caribbean community,” said Alister Guillaume, a paradegoer from Grenada who was attending with his family. “The best part is the music, it’s vibrant, it keeps you alive.”
