Irecently covered the volleyball quad match at Herbert Hoover where the host Huskies took on Buffalo, Sissonville and Elkins with each match being decided by a best of three sets.

In the case of Hoover and Buffalo, two teams that have had a constant presence in the state tournament in their respective classes, each is adapting to a new coach this season.

For Herbert Hoover, Missy Smith took over the Class AAA program after she spent years at Class AAAA George Washington. Janessa Bailes took over at Buffalo, playing its second season in Class AA.

In Bailes’ case, Buffalo is in a near complete rebuild after she moved up from volunteer assistant coach last season under head coach Barry Clendenin and assistant coach Jeanette Harris. Harris, Bailes’ mother, remains the assistant coach.
