Marathon runner Chris Burgenson knows what it takes to finish the big race. After completing his first marathon in Baltimore in 2023, he raced in Chicago in 2024. Then he ran the Boston Marathon in April of this year.
“As I approached the finish line [in Boston], I began to feel increasingly fatigued,” he recalled. “The sun had been beating down on me for more than two hours. What kept me going? Yes, the crowds along the route were helpful, but something that helped me was staying present during the race. I would think to myself, ‘Even though I am tired, and this hurts, I’m still moving.’”
