HOODED vigilantes have attacked migrants in Madrid following the suspected rape of a 14-year-old local girl by a Moroccan man.

Spain is the latest European country where migrants housed amongst locals have caused tensions to boil over.

The Madrid attack targeted a centre housing young migrants after the arrest of a person staying there.

On Sunday evening, two hooded people assaulted a group of three near the First Reception Centre in the Spanish capital - two children and an adult.

One child needed hospital treatment but has since been discharged.

Police are investigating.

Francisco Martín, the government's representative in Madrid, slammed the violence.

He said that “hate speech ultimately manifests itself in hate crimes” and vowed the "full force" of the law against the attackers.
