On Monday night, September 1 — as Labor Day Weekend 2025 was coming to an end — Politico's Kyle Cheney and others reported that President Donald Trump would be making an announcement in the White House the following day at 2 PM eastern time. Cheney noted, however, that the announcement was "unspecified."
The Daily Beast's Cameron Adams reports that the announcement is fueling "intense rumors surrounding" the 79-year-old president's health.
"The president's last public appearance was on August 26 for a cabinet meeting, where his bruised hand made an appearance," Adams explains. "He was spotted by reporters heading to golf in Virginia on Saturday with his granddaughter, Kai. Trump demonstrated proof of life on his Truth Social account over the weekend with a flurry of posts, ranging from increasingly bizarre AI-generated images to his praise of the stone work in the White House Rose Garden. On Sunday, the president even directly addressed the debate on his health, posting he had 'NEVER FELT BETTER IN MY LIFE.'"

Adams adds, "While Trump’s long weekend of golfing has been punctuated by his random Truth Social posts, the usually outspoken president has made no media appearances, and no official photos of his golf games have been released. Trump’s health became a major talking point in July. After the recurring bruise on his hand and noticeably swollen ankles, the president underwent a medical check-up."
Adams notes that on X, formerly Twitter, Trump ally John Fredericks posted a photo of him and the president taken at Trump’s National Golf Club in Sterling, Virginia around 4 PM on Sunday, August 31. The photo was taken by Fredericks' wife Anne.
X is being inundated with speculation on what the announcement might be.
Attorney and Never Trump conservative George Conway mockingly tweeted, "something something two weeks tremendous never seen anything like it huge many people saying."

Never Trump conservative and self-described "Eisenhower Republican" Jody Hopkins posted, "It could be that he is announcing that he has won another golf tournament or that he is calling a national emergency and directing the National Guard to dismantle all windmills. Perhaps, he is nominating Hannibal Lecter to be the new Director of the CDC."
X user Matt Ilich wrote, "Something VERY important tomorrow. People are already asking questions, but I can't say yet. You'll know soon… but not everything. The REAL details (the biggest part!) in 2 weeks. You won't believe it!"
While Conway, Hopkins and Ilich responded with pure ridicule, podcaster and stock market analyst Rufas Kamau had a lot of ideas on what Trump's announcement might pertain to.
Kamau posted, "Potential topics for Donald Trump's 2 p.m. ET announcement today, September 2, 2025: Federal Reserve: Firing or appointing Fed members amidst his ongoing battle with the institution over interest rate cuts. Tariffs and Trade: Responding to the recent federal appeals court ruling that found most of his reciprocal tariffs unlawful…. National Security: Addressing issues like border security, immigration, or other national security matters."
Kamau continued, "Judicial/Personnel: Making a Supreme Court-related announcement or nominating other key personnel. Domestic Policy: Unveiling new initiatives or executive orders related to domestic issues like crime, energy, or civil commitment for the homeless."
