Hibernian have announced the signing of defensive midfielder Daniel Barlaser on a season-long loan from Middlesbrough.

The 28-year-old, who came through Newcastle’s academy, has spent the last three years in the English Championship with Boro and Rotherham and has amassed more than 250 senior career appearances.

Barlaser’s signing – announced on Tuesday – came after Hibs’ move to take Scotland forward Lyndon Dykes on loan from Birmingham collapsed just before the transfer deadline on Monday.
