A man who was critically injured following a shooting in New Haven on Monday afternoon has died, according to police.

Officers responded to Chapel Street and Ellsworth Avenue around 1:45 p.m. for a report of shots fired.

Once there, police originally said a 34-year-old from New Haven had been shot. Later in the evening, investigators corrected his age to 31 and said he was shot twice.

He was originally in critical condition and later died of his injuries, police said. His identity has not yet been released.

Authorities believe the shooting was targeted where one shooter ran up on the man.
