LEXINGTON, Ky. (WSMV) - A Tennessee woman who is a senior at the University of Kentucky is facing multiple charges after officers found her dead newborn in her closet last week.

According to the Lexington Police Department, officers were called to a home in the 400 block of Park Avenue around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 28.

They searched the residence and found a deceased infant at the scene.

The infant’s mother, 21-year-old Laken Snelling, was arrested four days later.

An arrest affidavit states that the newborn was located in a closet and was wrapped in a towel inside a black trash bag.

The arresting officers reported that Snelling admitted to giving birth and cleaning up all the evidence of her delivery.
