It's a weekly task across the country, but the simple act of putting the bin out could see homeowners landed with fines of up to £400. A new survey has found there are five rules around wheelie bins which come with financial penalties if not followed and that almost two-thirds of householders are unaware of them.
Bad bin etiquette is most definitely a thing and in a study of 2,000 homeowners, David Wilson Homes also found that one in 10 do not know their dedicated bin collection day, with this number almost doubling in Scotland to 19 per cent.
A further 15 per cent are unsure of their local authorities' bin colours and their different meanings. One rule which can see people landed with an up to £100 fine is putting their bins out for collection too early.
