Sheinelle Jones is returning to the "Today" show.
The NBC morning show fan favorite will be back on the air on Friday, Sept. 5, following the death of her husband Uche Ojeh from a rare form of brain cancer in May.
News of Jones' return was announced on the "Today" show on Tuesday, Sept. 2. Anchor Savannah Guthrie told viewers that Jones and her family "have been through so much" after Ojeh's death.
"We recently sat down together," Guthrie said. "We shared a really personal conversation talking about how she has carried on and found the strength these past few months."
Guthrie added that Jones, who describes her experience as a "beautiful nightmare," has "thoughts on grief that are so touching" and will share a "special message of hope" with viewers.
"We cannot wait to welcome Sheinelle home, right where she belongs," Guthrie added.
Guthrie announced the death of Jones' husband on May 23.
"With profound sadness, we share this morning that Uche Ojeh, the husband of our friend and 'Today' co-host Sheinelle Jones, has passed away after a courageous battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma," Guthrie told the "Today" audience at the time.
She added: "There are no words for the pain we feel for Sheinelle and their three young children. Uche was an incredible person. We all loved him. And so we want to take a moment to tell you more about the remarkable man who was Sheinelle's perfect partner in life."
Jones reposted the footage on her Instagram with a message for fans and "Today" viewers, simply captioning her post, "Thank you, for all of your love and support" with a red heart emoji.
The pair had been married since 2007, and shared son Kayin, 15, and fraternal twins Uche and Clara, 12. The couple met at Northwestern University.
She cohosts the third hour of "Today" alongside weatherman Al Roker, meteorologist Dylan Dreyer and Guthrie's main hours coanchor Craig Melvin.
Is Sheinelle Jones replacing Hoda Kotb on 'Today' with Jenna Bush Hager?
Jones has been floated by former "Today" anchor Hoda Kotb as her possible replacement on the morning show's fourth hour, "Jenna and Friends," which is hosted by Jenna Bush Hager and rotating guests.
Kotb told "Watch What Happens Live" host Andy Cohen during a June episode that "our dear friend Sheinelle Jones" would "be good," despite "going through a horrible time."
Jones' absence from the air drew attention when she missed Kotb's goodbye celebration in January, dubbed "Hoda-bration" by the show's production staff.
Jones, a graduate of the esteemed Northwestern University Medill School of Journalism, joined "Today" in 2014 after almost a decade at Fox 29 News Philadelphia, where she co-hosted morning show "Good Day Philadelphia" alongside local broadcasting legend Mike Jerrick.
