COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS — One person is dead and one person is in critical condition after a plane crashed in Little Cottonwood Canyon on Sunday.

Director of Communications for the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Hannah Gorsk, said a small aircraft crashed in the Albion Basin area at 5:21 p.m.

KSL TV spoke to eyewitnesses who said they watched the plane crash and were some of the first bystanders to render aid.

Hunter Priest and Crystal Hulse were in the middle of their wedding save-the-date photoshoot in Little Cottonwood Canyon’s fields of wildflowers when they saw a plane flying low.

“We couldn’t hear the engines. He was gliding and then, like, tried to pull up, and he went behind the tree lines and nothing, and just, you see a big cloud of dust,” Priest said.
