A tropical wave over the eastern tropical Atlantic west of Africa is likely to become a tropical depression this week or weekend, forecasters with the National Hurricane Center in Miami said Tuesday.

Located south of the Cabo Verde Islands, the system is producing a wide area of disorganized shows and thunderstorms as of 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Environmental conditions look conducive to gradual development over the next couple of days as the system moves west to northwest at around 15 mph, forecasters said.

The system is expected to move across the eastern and central tropical Atlantic over the weekend.

The tropical wave is not a current threat to Louisiana.

As of 7 a.m. Tuesday, the system has a 70% chance of forming within the next week and a 30% chance of forming within the next 48 hours,
