Lancashire Police have confirmed the tragic discovery of a body during the search for a missing teenager, Daniel Holden, aged 19. The search began after concerns were raised for his welfare. Daniel was last seen near Lower Rivington Reservoir at 9pm on August 29.
The two-day operation involved a specialist underwater team, which ultimately located the body on Sunday, August 31. Police have stated that the death is not being treated as suspicious. A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said, "Following reports of a concern for welfare for a man believed to be in the Rivington area, officers were in the area of Lower Rivington Reservoir since the afternoon of Saturday, August 30."
The spokesperson continued, "Following an underwater search on Sunday, August 31, very sadly the body of a 19-year-old man was found in the reservoir. Sadly, and despite the best efforts of the emergency services, he was pronounced deceased at the scene. Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this devastating time. His death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be passed onto HM Coroner in due course."
Tributes have poured in for Daniel, a former player for Horwich RMI Amateur Football Club. The club expressed their condolences on Facebook, stating, "RIP Daniel Holden our former player, thoughts go out to family and friends in this very sad time."
Friends have also shared their grief on social media. One friend wrote, "Rip Danny top lad and a good friend had some good laughs gone way too soon." Another added, "RIP Danny my mate," while a third expressed, "Rest in peace Danny Holden my heart goes out to his family and friends, really is such a shame to see such a young lad pass like this."
