It’s interesting that Neil Young is still considered a great Canadian artist, as the majority of the relevant music he has made across his storied career was penned, played and produced in the U.S.
Since relocating to the California in 1966, Young has been so synonymous with the state’s 1960s and ’70s sounds that there are still many diehard fans that don’t know he actually was born in Toronto and raised in Winnipeg. Everyone seems to know that Graham Nash was English, but missed out on the Canuck in Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.
Nash became a U.S. citizen in 1978. Young didn’t officially become an American until 2020, having lived in the country as a permanent resident since 1970. No matter.
