A federal judge has blocked President Donald Trump ‘s use of the National Guard and other members of the military in Los Angeles and the surrounding area.
Trump federalized the National Guard to be deployed to Los Angeles in June, amid protests of the administration’s immigration raids. Newsom objected to the deployment, saying that inflamed the situation, and challenged the president’s action in court.
U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer ruled that the Trump administration was in violation of the Posse Comitatus Act, which bars the use of the military to execute domestic law.
