DES MOINES, Iowa —

Iowa educators are addressing student food insecurity by donating $25,000 and food items to the Food Bank of Iowa, supporting its school pantry programs amid federal food assistance cuts.

Leaders of the National and Iowa State Education Associations raised concerns about the impact of these cuts on thousands of Iowa families.

"We've been hearing about empty pantries because kids come and take what they need and there's not enough to go around to meet the needs," said Joshua Brown, president of the Iowa association. "And so making those donations directly to Food Bank of Iowa or making those donations, calling your school and saying you have it, you have a food pantry, is there a way for me to donate?"
