Colin Farrell didn't feel well after binging on piles of food while shooting Ballad of a Small Player. In the new drama, The Batman actor plays Lord Doyle, an addict who spends his days at the casino while lying low in Macau. In one particular scene, Doyle goes on "the most expensive binge in the history of man", and the Irish actor admitted he felt quite unwell after gorging himself on piles of food take after take. "I didn't feel great after that day. I'm not going to lie," he candidly told Deadline. "I needed a plunger. I won't tell you which orifice I f**king used it on, but no, I didn't feel great. But it's all part of the fun and the adventure of it and the challenge of it. And you just throw yourself into it, of course." The Banshees of Inisherin actor recalled that the chef of the hotel they used for the shoot put on "the most elaborate spread of food", but he barely made a dent in it. "They had shrimps, they had lobster tails, they had wagyu steak, they had chocolate gateaux, they had macaroons, they had bread rolls, there was Champagne, everything," he remembered. "I mean, it was one of those things, honestly, I look and I go, 'Oh God, this is going to be such a waste.' I am not going to be able to make it through three per cent of this. And I just did quick math, and I just said, 'Okay, I'm going to probably go for this, that and the other, and we'll see how we go.'" Farrell praised camera operator Daniel Bishop for following him closely as he "went for it" with the mountain of food. "I really felt like it was a lovely dance with Danny the whole time," he added. "And we didn't do too many takes, but it was aggressive." Ballad of a Small Player premiered at the Telluride Film Festival last week. It will be released on Netflix on 29 October.
