Lilburn just added something special to its city park: a bridge where people can remember and honor their pets.

The spur bridge on the Camp Creek Greenway Trail at Lilburn City Park has officially been renamed Lily’s Bridge, after a rescued pup once found at the park. Starting August 28, which was Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day, visitors have brought mementos of their pets to attach them to the bridge as a tribute.

Why it matters

A rare tribute: Pet memorial bridges are extremely uncommon in the U.S., making this one of the few places where communities can gather around shared love for animals.

Inspired by kindness: Locals Ted and Sandi Wright suggested the idea after reading the poem At the Rainbow Bridge and witnessing how often abandoned animals are found in the park.
