(NewsNation) — Emma Stone said she recognizes “terrifying” parallels between Luigi Mangione, the man accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, and her new film, “Bugonia."

At the Telluride Film Festival on Saturday, Stone highlighted the connection between her role and real-life violence, according to Variety.

Mangione is accused of fatally shooting Thompson on a Manhattan sidewalk last December. Since the shooting, Mangione has gained a following and has raised over $1.2 million for his legal defense fund.

Stone said Thompson’s killing occurred just after she finished wrapping “Bugonia.”
