(NEXSTAR) – A man who was filmed taking a hat from tennis player Kamil Majchrzak at the U.S. Open last week has apologized for seemingly snatching the souvenir away from a young fan.
Footage of the incident, which went viral on social media, shows Majchrzak signing autographs for fans on the side of the court after a match on Thursday. He then takes off his cap and holds it up in front of a boy, but a man standing next to the boy grabs it away and stuffs it inside a woman’s bag.
The clip quickly went viral, prompting calls for viewers to identify the man.
On Monday, tennis fan Piotr Szczerek came forward to “unequivocally apologize to the young boy,” claiming he believed he was the intended recipient of the cap.
