RENFREW — Ontario Provincial Police carried out a large-scale search in Renfrew late Thursday night, Aug. 28 after a woman reported being held against her will and sexually assaulted at a local motel.
The woman had taken herself to hospital on Aug. 28 where she told staff she had been assaulted at a motel on Stewart Street. She also reported that the man, who is known to her, was armed with a handgun.

By the time officers responded, the suspect had already left the motel but was later spotted walking nearby. When police attempted to arrest him, he fled onto the Algonquin Trail, prompting an extensive search.
The operation involved members of the Renfrew OPP, the Emergency Response Team, the Canine Unit, and the Tactics and Rescue Unit. Out of caution, a shelter-in-pl
