Police probing a firebombing in Greenock have said they are now treating the incident as "attempted murder". ‌

A ground floor flat on Sir Michael Street was targeted in the Inverclyde town at around 2am on Tuesday, August 26. ‌

Emergency services were called to the scene and a 67-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment. Officers say he was discharged later that day. ‌

Following enquiries, the incident is being treated as attempted murder.

Pictures taken at the scene show a boarded up window where an accelerant is understood to have been thrown inside.

No one has yet been arrested and detectives are continuing to appeal for information. ‌
