DALLAS — Texas, for the first time, is leading the nation in new retail construction — and Dallas-Fort Worth is leading the charge , a new report found.

The booming retail sector is fueled by a booming population, according to a report from the real estate firm Colliers. While retail construction hits historic lows nationally, Texas is defying the trends, delivering an average of 6 to 7 million square feet of new retail space per quarter.

Since 2020, less than 5% of all retail space listed for lease nationally was newly built. But nearly one-third of those new retail spaces were in Texas, the report states.
