HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) - A former Vanderburgh County Director of Finance will serve time in federal prison after being sentenced for stealing over $125,000 in public funds.

Regene Newman, 59, was sentenced to 1 1/2 years after pleading guilty to wire fraud. Officials state Newman has already paid over $101,000 in restitution to two victims and privately settled with a third.

According to court documents, Newman exploited positions of public trust over a period of seven years, stealing over $125,000 intended for community programs and nonprofit organizations. Officials say she used the funds to support a lavish lifestyle and making large purchases at several retailers.
