CALLANDS — Bill Guerrant had to pause quite often during Saturday's historical marker dedication.

The noise from vehicles only a few feet away on Sago Road overpowered his speech to a few dozen gathered outside the original 18th-century courthouse in Pittsylvania County.

Of course, that wouldn't have been an issue 250 years earlier, when history was being made on the grounds.

Guerrant, the president of the Pittsylvania County Historical Society, talked before a marker was unveiled Saturday afternoon, solidifying the historic event at the building in 1775.

There's one at Monticello. There's another at Red Hill. Now, Callands has a Road to the Revolution Heritage Train marker for its role in the American Revolution.
