An asteroid the size of a commercial jet will make a close flyby to Earth on Wednesday (September 2), zooming past our home planet at speeds of more than 28,000 miles per hour.
Asteroid 2025 QD8 is expected to come within just 135,465 miles (218,009km) of our planet. While this may seem far, this is closer to Earth than the Moon.
At its closest point to Earth, the 38-metre (124ft) space rock will be roughly 57 per cent of the Earth-Moon distance.
The flyby is set to happen at 3.56pm UK time on Wednesday (September 3). If an asteroid of this size was to strike Earth, it has the potential to destroy an entire city.
However, NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA), have monitored asteroid 2025 QD8 carefully and say there is no impact risk.
The flyby comes just months after it was feared
