MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police in Oxford, Mississippi say shots were fired and one person taken into custody after a large event at a barbecue restaurant late Saturday night into Sunday.
Oxford Police say they responded at 12:30 a.m. Sunday to an event that drew "massive" crowds at Booth's Barbeque and Yard at 2200 South Lamar Boulevard.
About 20 officers spent until 3 a.m. clearing the scene. They made 42 traffic stops and discovered 10 weapons, they said.
At 12:47 a.m., shots were fired from a handgun, police said. Officers ran into the business and secured it.
Antwan Terrell Tompkins, 19, of Tupelo, was taken into custody in that shooting and charged with Aggravated Assault. His bond will be set Tuesday.
