The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. has been deployed to a police-involved shooting in Burnaby that has left one person seriously injured.

RCMP confirmed one person has been taken to hospital with gunshot wounds after police were called out to a home in the 4300-block Dundas Street just after 2:50 p.m. on Labour Day Monday.

The person is in hospital in serious condition.

Burnaby RCMP were called to a domestic dispute at the home on Dundas, near Madison Avenue, said B.C. RCMP on Tuesday.

When they got there, they found a suspect with an “edged weapon,” it said. “An interaction occurred and shots were fired by police.”

The IIO, B.C.’s civilian police watchdog, has been notified.

The area was cordoned off late Monday as investigators gathered evidence and talked to witnesses.
