The search for a man in his 20s who fell off a Jet Ski at Bluffer's Park Beach more than a week ago has ended after Toronto police confirmed the marine unit recovered his body Tuesday.

Police were called around 9:15 p.m. on Aug. 24 after two people fell off a Jet Ski near the beach, Duty Insp. Lhawang Jongdong said at the scene the following morning. A female rider was able to get back on the Jet Ski and return to shore, but the man she was riding with remained missing. Only the female rider was wearing a life jacket, Jongdong said.

He said the family remained hopeful in the early days of the search that the man would be found.

Police told CBC Toronto last week that rescue calls for personal watercrafts have gone up 51 per cent so far this summer compared with last year.
