Time was of the essence for Brian Kelly toward the end of the first half last Saturday against Clemson .

With 15 seconds left before halftime, LSU's coach elected to go for it on fourth and 2 at the Clemson 12-yard line instead of settling for the short field goal that would have cut the LSU deficit to 10-6.

It was an aggressive approach, one that LSU's analytics model would've supported in a typical fourth-and-2 situation in the red zone. But with only one timeout at his disposal and seconds remaining in the half, Kelly, with some perspective, believes that he made the wrong decision.

"The mistake that I made on that is that we didn't have enough time on the clock to get in four plays," Kelly said.
