JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) - The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) approved $2.8 million for Mississippi. Officials said the funds will help cover emergency protective measures taken by the City of Jackson following significant flooding events.
According to FEMA, the grant includes funding for Jackson’s efforts to protect life and property during water treatment plant inundation in 2022. This led to the city's water crisis.
Jackson’s water system is now being led by JXN Water, which is under the leadership of interim Third-Party Manager Ted Henifin. This comes after the Justice Department, on behalf of U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), filed a complaint against the City of Jackson in 2022, alleging that the city failed to provide drinking water that is reliably compliant wi
